Serkiva began with a simple frustration: it had become hard to buy printed cloth in Accra that was still good after a year of wearing.
We are a small team, and we do not make cloth. We buy it — from Ghanaian mills like GTP and ATL, from other West African producers, from European wax houses, and from further afield when something is worth the trip.
Nothing comes in on a standing order. We go and look, we put our hands on it, and we buy what passes. Then we ask the harder question: does anyone actually need this, or is it already in every shop on the street? A great deal of perfectly good cloth fails that second test.
What is left is a smaller shelf than we could have, changing faster than most shops would tolerate. That is the trade we have chosen, and it is the whole reason to buy from us rather than from the stall with everything on it.
What we stock, we chose
Every bolt was picked up, felt and argued over before it came in. Nothing is here because a supplier decided to send it.
We check before we buy
The hand, the light, the colour, the selvedge. Four checks, every time, before anything is worth discussing further.
When it is gone, it is gone
We buy what we find, and most of it cannot be reordered. We would rather retire a cloth than replace it with something worse wearing its name.
